Urea fault on your Peugeot, Citroën or DS? Delete on your driveway, or repaired at JF Automotive.
An orange UREA light, a SERVICE light, or "starting impossible in … miles" counting down. Urea is what Peugeot, Citroën and DS call AdBlue, so this is an AdBlue fault under another name. We can switch the system off in software on your driveway, priced from the registration before we come, or the car goes to JF Automotive in Maidstone (the workshop we're part of) to be found and fixed.

- Fully insured
- Fixed price before the visit
UREA is AdBlue with a different label
Urea and AdBlue are the same thing
AdBlue is a 32.5% solution of urea in purified water. Peugeot, Citroën and DS print UREA on the warning instead of AdBlue, but it's the same tank, the same pump and the same SCR system that cuts NOx from the exhaust.
An orange wavy line marked UREA
Usually shown with the SERVICE light and a message in the display. A steady light that goes out after a top-up was just low fluid.
When it's more than a top-up
A flashing light, a light that comes back after you've filled the tank, or the UREA light alongside the engine light means the system has logged a fault. Topping up won't clear that.
What the dashboard says
Quote the message to us exactly as it's written. It tells us more than the symbol does.
- Top up emissions additive: Starting impossible in … miles - The countdown. The car drives normally until it reaches zero, then won't restart once switched off.
- Emissions fault - The system has found a problem it can't clear on its own.
- Emissions fault: starting impossible - The countdown has run out, or is about to.
- UREA with SERVICE - Low fluid if it clears after a top-up; a fault if it doesn't.
- Kia and Hyundai: Check urea system / Service urea system - The same AdBlue system, with Kia and Hyundai's own wording.
The urea faults behind the warning
These all look the same from the driver's seat. Reading the codes and the live data is what tells them apart.
- Urea (AdBlue) pump - A failed or blocked pump can't build pressure, so nothing is injected.
- Crystallised injector or lines - Dried urea blocks the injector or the pipes, and the dosing goes wrong or stops.
- Level or quality sensor - The tank is full but reads empty, or good fluid is rejected as bad.
- Tank heater - Urea freezes in cold weather. A failed heater shows up on the first frosty morning.
- Damaged tank - A cracked tank or a fault in the tank unit itself.
- Wiring and communication faults - A broken connection between the parts and the engine ECU.
- NOx sensor - The sensor that checks the system is working fails, and the car can't prove it is.
Peugeot, Citroën and DS diesels
BlueHDi diesels from around 2014 onwards. If yours isn't listed and shows a UREA warning, it's the same job.
- Peugeot 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 508, Partner, Rifter
- Citroën C3, C3 Picasso, C4, C4 Cactus, C4 Picasso, Grand Picasso, Berlingo
- DS DS3, DS4
Kia and Hyundai diesels use the same system and show "Check urea system" or "Service urea system".
AdBlue fix, or AdBlue delete
A delete is a software job we do on your driveway. A repair is workshop work, and for that the car goes to JF Automotive in Maidstone, where it's diagnosed properly and put right. Which one you go for is up to you.
AdBlue fix
The car goes to JF Automotive in Maidstone. They test the whole SCR system, tank sensors, heater, pump, injector, NOx sensors and the wiring between them, find the part that has actually failed and replace it. The warning clears, the countdown resets, the system keeps working and the car stays exactly as the manufacturer built it.
A repair isn't a mobile job, so we don't come out to diagnose it first. Book it straight into JF Automotive, the workshop we're part of, and they diagnose and fix it in one go.
Book it in for a repairAdBlue delete
The SCR system is switched off in the engine ECU. The warnings, the countdown and the limp mode stop, the car no longer uses AdBlue, and there are no more sensors, pumps or injectors to fail. It takes about an hour on the driveway and is written from your original file, which we keep so the car can go back to standard on one visit.
Priced from the registration, before we come, and the price doesn't change on the driveway.
Get a price for a deleteBefore you book an AdBlue delete
An AdBlue delete means the vehicle no longer meets the emissions standard it was approved to. Under regulation 61A of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 it is then an offence to use it on a public road, and it will not pass an MOT. A delete is for vehicles used off the public road, on private land, or being exported; driving to have the equipment repaired and driving to a port for export are both permitted.
By booking a delete you confirm the vehicle's use and accept our delete conditions, which are set out in full in our terms and conditions. That's the whole of the notice. You now have the facts, and the decision on what to do is yours to make.

Give us the registration, what the dashboard says, and where you are. We come back with a fixed price, usually the same day, and a booking link if you want to go ahead. Pick the box that matches the job; if you're not sure, leave it and tell us the message.
Send a quick enquiry and we'll reply with a fixed price, usually the same day.
- From £245, quoted on the car
- Fully insured, at your home or work
- No workshop visit, no courtesy car needed
Urea questions, answered plainly
Is urea the same as AdBlue?
Yes. AdBlue is a 32.5% urea solution, and Peugeot, Citroën and DS simply label the warning UREA. Same fluid, same tank, same system.
Why does my UREA light stay on after topping up?
Because the light isn't only reporting the level. Once the system has logged a fault, a pump, a sensor, a heater or a blocked injector, topping up doesn't clear it. If the light stays on or comes back after a proper top-up, treat it as a fault.
What does "starting impossible in … miles" mean?
Exactly what it says. The car runs normally until the counter reaches zero, then won't restart once you switch it off. The counter resets when the fault is fixed, not by topping up and not by disconnecting the battery.
Can I keep driving?
Usually yes in the short term, but you're on a clock if a countdown is running, and an emissions warning is an MOT failure. Don't leave it to the last few miles.
Do you come to me?
For a software delete, yes: everything is done at your home or your workplace, across Kent, East Sussex, Essex, Surrey and London. A repair needs a ramp and proper diagnostics, so the car goes to JF Automotive in Maidstone, the company we're part of, and they diagnose and fix it there.
How much does a urea fault repair cost?
It depends on which part has failed, and a sensor and a pump aren't the same job. JF Automotive give you a fixed price once the fault has been diagnosed, and you agree it before any work starts. A software delete is from £245, one fixed figure from the registration.
